About :Camille Pépin is a french composer born in 1990. Feuilles d’eau de Silvacane for string quartet is dedicated to the Auryn Quartet. Premiered in the summer of 2019 at Silvacane Abbey in the South of France, Feuilles… is a musical evocation of the distinctive ‘waterleaf’ decorative motif that adorns the capitals of columns in 12th century Cistercian abbeys. Waterleaves are carved stylized leaf motifs curving upward and outward before curling inward towards the abacus supporting the architrave. Feuilles… also refers to Fabienne Verdier’s superb artwork Feuilles d’eau de Silvacane (2004), a series of six medium-sized paintings combining ink, pigments and varnish. Each one represents a waterleaf painted in diluted black ink against a grey background (the Silvacane stone). The little red square featuring on each painting symbolizes alchemy – the inner fire leading to transcendence.
