About :The opera seria Tamerlano, first performed in London in 1724, is one of the undisputed masterpieces of Georg Friedrich Handel (1685-1759). The libretto is by Nicola Francesco Haym and tells the story of Tarmerlano, Emperor of the Central Asian Tartars, and his defeated rival, the Ottoman Sultan Bajazet, who is taken prisoner with his daughter Asteria. The solemn overture that introduces the work is a model of the overture 'à la française' (French style).
