About :Alcina, HWV 34, an opera in three acts by Georg Friedrich Handel (1685-1759), was first performed in London in 1735. The libretto, written by an anonymous author, was inspired by Ariosto's Orlando Furioso and tells the story of the fascinating magician Alcina, who falls in love with the knight Ruggiero. In the dramatic and virtuoso aria 'Ombre pallide', which closes Act II, the enchantress appeals to the shadows and spirits to stop her lover's flight.
