About :Il Pastor Fido, the second opera Georg Friedrich Handel (1685-1759) presented to London audiences in 1712, was not as successful as Rinaldo the previous year. However, after several years, in 1734, the composer reworked his work and added a ballet as a prologue (HWV 8c), 'Terpsichore', from which is extracted this beautiful Chaconne (from Radamisto, HWV 12), an elegant and noble orchestral dance, based on an ostinato bass and variations, constantly renewing the melodic and harmonic discourse, as well as the instrumentation.
