About :La Cumparsita (short for Comparsa, meaning 'small street parade' in Spanish) is one of the most famous Uruguayan-Argentinean tango tunes in the world. It was composed in 1915 by the Uruguayan musician Gerardo Matos Rodríguez. Nicknamed 'the tango of the tangos', this Latin love song, which is extremely popular in Uruguay and Argentina, was made famous in 1927 as "Si supieras" by Carlos Gardel. It has then been taken up and adapted by many performers around the world, including Pascual Contursi in Argentina. It became the popular and cultural anthem of Uruguay by presidential decree of 2 February 1998.
