About : Cécile Chaminade (1857 - 1944) is a French composer and pianist born in Paris. Georges Bizet, who was a friend of the Chaminade family, spotted the young girl's early talent. He fought to have her receive a musical education at the conservatory, but met with the refusal of her father, who considered that "daughters of the bourgeoisie are destined to be wives and mothers". Cécile Chaminade nevertheless took private lessons, and made a very fine career as a pianist, giving concerts all over the world. She was a prolific composer and left over a hundred works of chamber music, orchestral music, melodies and piano pieces.
