About : Jean-Louis Duport (1749-1819), Jean-Pierre Duport’s brother, was a French composer and solo cellist at the Opéra de Paris. As a skilled teacher, his “Essay on fingering the violoncello and on the conduct of the bow” was very influential for over a century. It is said that Napoleon damaged Duport’s Stradivarius, as he wanted to try it.
