About : Songs My Mother Taught to Me is a song by Antonin Dvorak written in 1880. It is the fourth of seven songs from his Gypsy Songs, Op. 55, set to poems by the Czech poet Adolf Heyduk. Initially written for the tenor Gustav Walter, those dancing songs with simple melodies reveal Dvorak's ability to write very eclectic works. Fritz Kreisler transcribed the song for violin and piano. This piece in particular gained international fame and has been recorded by many illustrious singers.
