Jérôme Laran & Michaël Ertzscheid
Originally, this tune used to be an improvisation based on the first prelude of the first book of Bach's "Well Tempered Clavier" performed by Gounod on the piano. From this improvisation, Gounod's future father-in-law, the pianist Pierre Zimmermann, made a version for violin and a small choir. The arrangement for voice on the Catholic prayer in Latin "Ave Maria" only came later.
