About :The opera seria Tamerlano, first performed in London in 1724, is one of the undisputed masterpieces of Georg Friedrich Handel (1685-1759). The libretto is by Nicola Francesco Haym and tells the story of Tarmerlano, Emperor of the Central Asian Tartars, and his defeated rival, the Ottoman Sultan Bajazet, who is taken prisoner with his daughter Asteria. In Act 2, Andronico, Tamerlano's vassal and Asteria's suitor, is rejected by the woman he loves and expresses his despair in the moving aria "Cerco in vano".
