Jacob Van Eyck (1590-1657) is a Dutch composer, organist, carillon and recorder player, but also one of the most famous musicians of the Netherlands in the 17th century. “Doen Daphne” was inspired by the myth of Daphne and Apollon. It exemplifies Van Eyck’s composing style, defined by a structuration around a main theme and its variations, which stand as yet other proofs of the virtuosity of musicians at that time.
