Giuseppe Verdi's opera La Traviata premiered in 1853 at the famous Fenice in Venice. Based on Alexandre Dumas's "La Dame aux camélias", this Romantic drama tells the love story between a young bourgeois, Alfredo Germont, and Parisian courtesan, Violetta Valéry. At the beginning of Act II, the party scene in which is sung "Noi Siamo Zingarelle", also known as the Gypsy Chorus, is used by Verdi as a pause to release dramatic tension.
